72 an hour Job Summary Under the general direction of the Environmental Public Health Director, conduct and assist in food service establishment inspections, complaint investigation, water sample collection, permit issuance, Calhoun County Sanitation Code and Food Code enforcement, along with other state and federal rules and regulation enforcement.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Inspect licensed food service establishments Investigate food service complaints Inspect and issue temporary food licenses Educate the public on topics such as food safety and proper food handling techniques Stay current on specialized food trends and processes General Duties and Responsibilities Conduct required inspections, evaluations, and plan reviews as determined by state law or local regulation.
Issue permits, review water laboratory data, and evaluate special cases for resolution.
Enforce Calhoun County Sanitation Code and other rules and regulations as authorized.
Provide Environmental Health public education and serve on local and state committees.
Attend Environmental Health trainings and general staff meetings.
Assist and communicate with other local and state agencies on matters that affect the public health and welfare of residents.
Participate in public health quality programs (e.
g.
, Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Control).
Participate in emergency exercises and training required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or related field.
Computer skills necessary to effectively utilize word processing, database, and Environmental Health software systems.
Skills necessary to effectively manage a program assignment and daily operations.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Periodically required to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines and fulfilling scheduling requirements and workloads.
A valid Michigan's driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and a personal vehicle including proof of insurance are required.
Supplemental Information Working Conditions Extended workdays (beyond 8hrs/day) and weekends or holidays are occasionally required.
Exposure to interior and/or exterior hot or cold conditions with potential exposure to loud noises, fire, chemicals, toxins, pathogens, and/or infectious disease.
Working around construction sites, open trenches, and animals.
Ability to lift items weighing a minimum of 50 pounds.
Periodically required to stoop, bend, kneel, or walk across uneven terrain to accommodate different working positions.
Daily travel between county locations.
Occasional out-of-county or out-of-state travel for specific reasons.
On-call availability to respond to emergencies (e.
g.
, program-related and public health emergencies).
May encounter threatening people and other dangerous situations.
